PROJECT DONE!!!!!

Since we moved Zachary downstairs, I wanted to rearrange Elyse's room. It badly needed cleaning plus purging. I finally took the plunge and did it!

Eight hours later...did you read what I typed...EIGHT HOURS LATER, I am done with E's room. I threw out three bags of garbage, one HUGE box of garbage, three shoes boxes without any shoes in them, and one huge broken toy.

Here is part of her clean room:

Here is the rest: The culprit of messing up the room in the first place is peaking in - she wasn't allowed in the room while I cleaned because I was purging ruthlessly. She wouldn't like to see what I threw out - she keeps everything. Behind the door is several shelves. It hides a great deal of her things.

Notice the nasty white bookshelf that we took out of a neighbor's garbage. We plan on sanding it and painting it. Betsey graciously offered to help Elyse paint it. Glad it isn't me!

Now we have plenty of floor space to sleep grandchildren on during Thanksgiving weekend. That is if it stays clean!

Sounds like someone is nesting. :) At least, that's what everyone tells me every time I clean something.

Looks good! Now hurry up and come down here to see me.

Mom - do you still have any stencils for painting?? If not, do you think it would work if we printed "stencils" off the computer then cut them out and painted that way? I am excited about this project! Can you tell?

:)

Tell Elyse to be thinking about colors!

love,
Betsey

I don't have any stencils here, except the Tupperware ones for coloring (if that is what you mean). The shelf needs sanding - there are a lot of chips in it. I think it might have gone through a flood, it might not be worth painting. Anything you want to do to it, knock yourself out. You can see it in the picture and see how nasty it is.

Betsey, I have a stencil you might like. It's plastic, designed for painting. Lemme know if you want it, I'll send it back with Mom after the baby is born.

Erin - what's the stencil shaped like? I am thinking of helping Elyse re-paint the bookshelf pictured in Mom's latest post over Thanksgiving.

If the stencil is something that would go well with Elyse's room, is it something that could be mailed without being damaged??

Thanks for the idea!

love you,
Betsey

Yes, but will you need it for or before Thanksgiving? It's shaped kinda like a filigree, swirly, floral kinda thingy. It's the shape on my curtain valance I made, if you look at that photo again.

If you need the shape for Thanksgiving, just let me know, I think I can mail it. If you need it for later, though, I'll just send it back with the 'rents.

Nice work, mom! The room looks great!

Betsey - if you print off paper to use as stencils, you ming want to use spray paint instead of a brush and paint. In general, spray paint will make the job much easier anyway. Also, you may need to sand the bookshelf to make paint stick to it depending on how slick the wood is.

Erin and Em - thanks for the helpful tips! I appreciate them. Having never done something like this, I will need all the good advice I can get before tackling the project.

Erin - sounds gorgeous! I love the look of filigree designs. Love, love, love! I am at school right now, so I can't get on facebook to see the pictures of the exact design you're talking about, but I'm sure I'll like it! Could you mail it to Mom's place before Thanksgiving? We'll be working on the bookshelf then. But don't mail it until you hear word from Elyse that she wants that design on her bookshelf!

Mom - can you show Elyse the pictures Erin's referring to and see if she likes that design for her shelf? Also, how are we limited as far as colors go? Can I let Elyse go CRAZY and pick out anything she wants?? Or do I need to stick to a certain color scheme?

So excited! I'm gettin' crafty, by golly!

love,
Buzz

Great job on the room, MOM! Want to come overhaul our house now? (*Trying to insert a smiley face here, but my colon button won't work and neither will my copy/paste function at the moment! Ugh!)

The bookshelf project sounds fun! Betsey, I love how you're always willing to tackle crazy projects with the kiddos!
